Piano
Piano is fun and versatile!
I welcome students from about the age of six. No previous musical
experience is necessary. You will need to have access to a piano or
touch-sensitive keyboard, and some time to set aside for regular
practice. Adults are very welcome!

The piano is a wonderful instrument, suited to so many different musical styles and sound worlds. Learning it should be an enjoyable and totally absorbing experience, as you gradually acquire new skills, develop the ability to play favourite tunes, and discover exciting new material. There is a vast repertoire to explore from Baroque to modern jazz arrangements. I play all styles myself and encourage my students to do the same.
Making music at every level
I feel it is important to play attractive music right from the start, so I use appealing, modern-style tutor books with beginners. My focus is on students acquiring a thorough understanding of how to read music, whilst developing a good hand position, relaxed technique and general musicality. I am sensitive to different learning styles, so will adapt my approach to your individual need and only move on when you are ready.
Once you have developed a secure technique and feel confident, you may like to enter for the ABRSM practical exams (Grades 1 to 8) to provide a definite goal and recognition of your achievement.
